A little history about Torrevieja

The first thing about Torrevieja that attracts everyone´s attention is its environment. Two salty lagoons, a pink one and a green one, make up the Natural Park of the Lagunas de La Mata and Torrevieja which consists of 3,700 hectares, representing 52% of the local territory.

The Lagunas have an enormous biological wealth recognized both nationally and internationally. For this reason, Torrevieja can be seen as a unique tourist resort, where the environment stands as an important tourist attraction.

Torrevieja was always well-known for its fishing activity. It was back in the 18th century when fishermen and sailors began to use the Torrevieja coast to take refuge in days of rough sea. Since then, the local people started to receive seafarers of different backgrounds, especially Neapolitan and Genoese emigrants. That is why Italian surnames such as Parodi and Fortepiani have taken root in Torrevieja.

Another essential characteristic that makes Torrevieja special is the exploitation of the salt contained in the Lagoon since ancient times. This is what really allowed for the first settlements of population and what helped the town develop thanks to the maritime salt trade with destination to various ports of the Caribbean. The precious mineral was exchanged for exotic products like sugar cane, mahogany, etc. As a result of these trips the Habanera songs were created as a way for the sailors to tell the experiences lived in their long journeys.

This is a town with much to offer and you will experience that for yourself when you purchase your new property in Torrevieja, Costa Blanca, Spain.
