News: 52.5 million tourists visited Spain until August
The number of international tourists visiting Spain between January and August this year stood at 52,465,506. This represents an increase of 10.1% compared to the same period in 2015, according to the Tourist Movement on Borders (Frontur) survey, recently published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
Nearly 13 million of the arrivals during this period were from the United Kingdom, marking an increase of 13% from 2015, while 8.4 million visitors were from France, up 9.6% from last year. Germany sent 7.6 million tourists, an increase of 4.9% in comparison with the same period of 2015.
Right behind came the Nordic countries with 3.5 million tourists - up 11.8%, Italy with 2.9 million - up 4.6%, and the Netherlands with 2.5 million, 10.4% more.
The biggest increase occurred in the Costa Blanca in the Valencian Community, where the arrival of foreign tourists between January and August increased by 16.2% to accommodate a total of 5.6 million.
