News: Peñon de Ifach Natural Park in Calpe, Costa Blanca, Spain
The town of Calpe in Costa Blanca North is popular for having some of the best beaches in Spain. It is also home to the natural park of the rock of Ifach, a 45 hectare site which was declared a natural park by the Valencian government in 1987.
The park is situated on an isolated rock reaching an altitude of 332 meters on the north coast of the province of Alicante. This enormous calcareous mole descends abruptly towards the sea and is connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. From the top it is possible on clear days to view the island of Formentera and the cape of Santa Pola.
The park has a typical Mediterranean climate with average annual temperatures between 10°C and 26°C. Winters are mild and summers are warm. The characteristics of the park allows for the presence of endemic vegetation such as Silene de Ifach, thyme or the Valencian horseshoe. This place is a haven for birds such as the moth cormorant, the yellow-legged gull, the Eleonor hawk, the peregrine falcon or the pale swift.
