News: Great Perseid meteor shower expected next week in Torrevieja
Summer in the Costa Blanca is synonymous with good weather, holidays, sun and beach. And meteor showers, too. As every year at this time, the Earth crosses the orbital path of Comet Swift-Tuttle creating a beautiful spectacle of fast-moving Perseid meteors.
Sky watchers are in for a treat as this year's Perseid meteor shower is expected to have a rate of about 150 to 200 shooting stars per hour in the predawn hours of August 11 and August 12. Some experts are even predicting that up to 500 shooting stars per hour could be seen under optimal conditions.
The Astroingeo association of Alicante and Proyecto Mastral, in collaboration with the Natural Park of the Lagunas de La Mata and Torrevieja have prepared an activity for those people willing to watch the meteor shower in the heart of the natural park next to the lagoon of La Mata.
The activity is free and suitable for all ages. Registration is required via phone 96 692 04 04, email: parque_lamata@gva.es or at the Proyecto Mastral website www.eltiempoentorrevieja.es
